tml Partners supports Tilney Smith & Williamson’s Growth Plans with Critical Marketing Hires

Case Studies

tml Partners have brought together their professional services and financial services teams to work with Tilney Smith & Williamson across multiple brands.

Financial planning, wealth management and investment services have become even more important in the post-Covid world. Businesses specialising in this space and that are proving successful are able to do so because they are putting the customer at the heart of what they do and providing a range of services/product for a wider variety of audiences, be that young, new amateur investors as well as HNW & UHNW individuals.

Tilney and Smith & Williamson merged about 12 months ago with a clear purpose in mind, ‘place the power of good advice into more hands’. Now operating as Tilney Smith & Williamson, the business provides investment insights, financial planning and wealth management solutions to a wider set of clients and are developing services that will be accessible to a broad cross section of the population. Tilney Smith & Williamson deliver a friendly, inclusive and personalised service to all of its clients; develop relationships spanning multiple generations; and are a forward-thinking and innovative business.

Simonetta Rigo joined Tilney Smith & Williamson (TSW) shortly after the merger announcement, with the aim of refreshing the business’ marketing strategy and re-building the marketing function to be more aligned with the new structure. She reached out to tml Partners to work with her to support this growth and identify the right people to fill the gaps in the team.

We have been fortunate enough to work across several of the TSW business lines starting with the appointment of a Senior Acquisition Marketing Manager for Bestinvest, a Wealth Management Fintech business and one of the first of its kind. As they look to re-launch the brand with new and improved solutions, they were looking for a brand and acquisition specialist to drive this forward.

Our Fintech expert from our financial services team at tml Partners, Malisha Patel, worked with the CMO and the hiring manager Yannis Karagiannidis (Head of Digital Wealth Management) to understand more about the exciting role. Using her existing network of contacts in the industry, she immediately reached out to Courtney Galloway, and introduced her to the business. Courtney brought an excellent mix of agency and in-house experience, more recently leading multi-channel marketing programmes for Greensil. Her B2C agency side experience in New York, coupled with her Fintech experience meant Courtney could hit the ground running, take on the responsibility of leading campaigns, delivering a brand re-launch and would be used to working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. As such she was successfully appointed in the role in July 2021.

“Working with Malisha was a very seamless and enjoyable process. Her optimism and motivation made me feel extremely comfortable during a very uncertain time which I really appreciated. The time she designated to follow up and her communication made me feel very taken care of, especially her determination to find me the perfect next step.”

Mat Reeves from our professional services team partnered with Managing Partner of the Bristol office, Nigel Hardy on the corporate side of the business to appoint Kimberley Lee in a critical Business Development position. Kimberley now plays an important role in leading business development activity for Bristol, working closely with key stakeholders in the business to develop and implement sector specific business development and client targeting plans which will prove invaluable for the firm’s continued growth strategy.

Mat was appointed to lead the search given his recent success in completing a number of projects in the Bristol market. The South West (particularly Bristol) is a highly competitive market due to the number of professionals making the decision to relocate from London.

Almost immediately after the briefing, Mat reached out to Kimberley who was already an existing part of his network and was also highly recommended by Tish de Beer, another member of the tml Partners team. Kimberley’s background is mostly made up of business development positions in Law firms, most recently a leading Bristol based Law firm. Given her extensive senior stakeholder and Partner engagement skills, knowledge of the Bristol market, and ability to produce and roll out strong business development plans, Mat introduced Kimberley to the business. After a smooth and well managed interview process, Kimberley was then offered the role and was appointed in July 2021.

“I had a great experience working with Mat and the team. I was approached by Tish who was supportive, positive, encouraging and a great listener. She recognised that I was suitable for a role that Mat was working on.

Mat was fantastic throughout the process. He kept in touch regularly and shared updates, even if it was just to say when he was expecting feedback, which I really appreciated. He also provided insights of the firm and the people, and really understood their needs as well to ensure we would be a great fit. He provided detailed briefs and good advice that led me being selected for a fantastic role which I’m really enjoying. Thank you Mat and team!”

It has been a pleasure working with Tilney Smith & Williamson and working alongside Nicki Hetfield-Rogerson in HR to ensure the process was smooth for the hiring managers and our candidates.

“I worked closely with Malisha on several vacancies within our Marketing function and was impressed.  Malisha displayed a good knowledge of the sector and candidate market and sourced some strong contenders for my roles.  She also went above and beyond to provide some detailed market insight for us which helped to shape some important decisions.  I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend both Malisha as or tml and would engage them again in the future if a need arose.”
