tml Partners, specialist marketing recruiters, were appointed by the owner of an African/UAE-based family investment fund in their search for a consumer Chief Marketing Officer to lead the brand strategy, product refinement, UX/UI and go-to-market strategy for their consumer app; Beetl.
Beetl is an app designed to disrupt the events industry through a creative mobile platform showcasing every exciting event happening in your area. Everything from; comedy nights, sporting events, BBQ’s, raves, exercise sessions, kite surfing stints and everything in between. Events can be created by users or you can simply use the app to search for, find and attend interesting events nearby, creating a fun and engaging social interface.
The Challenge:
The app had been developed by a London agency for 18 months prior to tml Partners being appointed. As the product was nearing completion, the owners knew they needed their first FTE executive to start bringing all the marketing, sales, operations and technical app development in-house and build the foundations of their company and its culture.
The Solution:
Consulting with the owners and taking into account the relative risk of a CMO joining an absolute start-up, we concluded the search should begin with a 6-month contract and a view to go permanent thereafter. We were delighted to see what a positive response our network of CMOs had to joining Beetl even with no trading history to reflect on. We were quick to present a strong shortlist of consumer marketers, within four weeks. After 3 rounds of interviews and a detailed presentation to the family fund, Sam Chandler was appointed Chief Marketing & Growth Officer.
Sam brings years of experience marketing to the 18-34-year-old demographic and with it an excellent understanding of performance marketing and growth hacking. Applying his knowledge he quickly transformed the brand, including the app’s name and design, and set the ambitious but achievable growth metrics that all stakeholders can align. Instantly gaining the trust and confidence of the owners, Sam set about hiring a Product Lead and Growth Marketing Lead asking tml Partners to again, lead the search.
We successfully appointed Mariam Gagua as their Product Lead and Greg Cooke as their Growth Marketing Lead both are thoroughly enjoying their new mandates and looking forward to Beetl’s official launch date in the Summer.
Having successfully placed 3 roles for Beetl, We are now helping to fill a 4th position, a UX/UI Lead to join the marketing SLT.
