We have partnered with a leading, global law firm with clients across life sciences, private equity, real estate, technology and financial industries, to appoint a Client Development Director for their Life Sciences practice. This person will act as a strategic partner to senior stakeholders and attorneys, driving business development initiatives that strengthen client relationships and reinforce the firm’s position as a trusted advisor in the life sciences industry. You’ll work in a high-impact environment where collaboration, strategic thinking, and innovation drive long-term growth and success.

This role is part of the firm’s wider operations team, offering a unique opportunity to partner closely with attorneys and clients, providing strategic support across litigation, compliance, and transactional services. The firm has been recognized for its business team excellence and offers an inclusive culture with a commitment to ambition, agility, and results.

This position supports a market-leading Life Sciences Practice, advising stakeholders across biotech, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, diagnostics, and healthcare investments. The firm provides end-to-end counsel across the corporate lifecycle including capital markets, M&A, venture capital, private equity, regulatory, and IP.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Market Engagement

  • Shape strategic growth initiatives in partnership with business and practice leaders.
  • Develop scalable, high-impact programs to grow client relationships and industry positioning.
  • Leverage deep industry relationships to open new client pathways and expand market presence.
  • Identify trends and share market intelligence to inform business development strategies.
  • Lead development of client-facing materials, pitches, directories, and awards submissions.
  • Drive marketing campaigns and brand initiatives aligned with growth goals.
  • Collaborate with PR/communications teams to position the firm as a thought leader.

Operational Excellence & Team Development

  • Build and optimize processes, systems, and frameworks to scale client development.
  • Oversee long-term engagement programs with clients, partners, and industry organizations.
  • Implement operational improvements that boost productivity and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of business development professionals.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-impact culture with a strong focus on strategic execution.
  • Manage budgets with a focus on ROI and alignment to client and practice priorities.
  • Drive tech-enabled transformation of tools, policies, and systems.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Integration

  • Support integration of lateral partners and ensure access to firm-wide resources.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams (Finance, Practice Management, Knowledge, etc.) to drive data-informed decisions.
  • Align with other client development leaders to share best practices and support cross-practice collaboration.
  • Reinforce the firm’s standing as a trusted advisor for life sciences organizations across all growth stages.
