Beware of Phishing Scams – Stay Safe When Engaging With Recruiters

At tml Partners, we pride ourselves on being a trusted advisor in executive search. That trust is something we take seriously – which is why we want to alert you to a growing issue affecting our industry: phishing scams impersonating recruitment professionals.

Why does this happen?

Scammers are increasingly targeting professionals by posing as recruiters, often claiming to represent reputable firms like ours. With the use of AI-generated profiles, cloned websites, and sophisticated email copy, these scams can be convincing. The aim? To steal personal information, CVs, or even trick individuals into fake interview processes and job offers.

What should you be aware of?

  • Check the email address: The only domain we ever use is @tmlpartners.com. If you receive a message from a similar-sounding domain or from a generic Gmail or Outlook address, it’s not us.
  • Beware of urgent or unusual requests: We’ll never ask for personal bank details or payments during a recruitment process.
  • Watch for odd formatting or language: Poor grammar, inconsistent branding, or suspicious links are all red flags.
  • Video calls aren’t always safe: Scammers now use deepfake technology to impersonate people on video. If something feels off, it probably is – trust your instincts.

Our promise

All communications from tml Partners will only ever come from a verified @tmlpartners.com email address. We do not use WhatsApp or text to initiate contact for professional opportunities, and any job opportunity will be clearly and professionally presented.

We are constantly working our tech department to discover ways to protect our data and process, but vigilance is required.

What to do if you’re targeted

If you suspect a phishing attempt, we recommend the following:

  • Do not reply or click any links.
  • Let us know: Please forward the message to us so we can track and report the impersonation attempt.
  • In the UK you can forward the email to [email protected] – This is a government-owned email address working against fraud.
  • Report it as phishing on your chosen email platform and ensure you delete the email (e.g. if you’re using Gmail; Open the email > Click the three dots next to the reply arrow > Select Report phishing).

We know your time and personal information are valuable. If you ever have doubts about whether an email or message is genuine, get in touch via our website or contact your usual consultant directly.

Thank you for your vigilance and for helping keep our community safe.

Best wishes,
The tml Partners Team
