A leading global law firm is seeking a Senior Manager, Market Development to support its Asset Management & Investment Funds (AMIF) practice. Sitting within the global client growth function, this role is responsible for shaping and executing market development, marketing, and business development strategies for the AMIF practice across key U.S. and international markets.

You will work closely with practice leadership, partners, and a cross-functional client growth team to drive go-to-market strategy, pipeline development, and sales enablement, with a focus on high-impact campaigns, strategic pursuits, and revenue growth.

This role can be based in multiple East Coast office locations including New York, Boston and Washington D.C.


Key Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Partner with lawyers to develop and execute targeted business development plans, leveraging the firm’s global network and resources.
  • Work with partners, client growth colleagues, and firmwide stakeholders to develop strategic approaches to major opportunities.
  • Support the proposals team with:
    • RFP responses
    • Pitch and proposal content
    • Client-ready presentations
    • Credentials and qualifications materials
  • Identify and qualify potential leads; collect and share relevant market intelligence and client insights.
  • Represent the firm at select industry and networking events to support lead generation and profile-raising.
  • Identify relevant trade and professional associations and maximize the firm’s participation and visibility.
  • Coach lawyers ahead of key business development meetings, manage follow-up, and coordinate client debriefs.

Go-to-Market Strategy

  • Work with practice and firm leadership to identify priority markets, client segments, and growth opportunities.
  • Co-develop and deliver practice-centric business development and marketing strategies aligned to firmwide strategic initiatives.
  • Collaborate with content and events teams to design and execute integrated campaigns, thought leadership, and events that raise the profile of the AMIF practice and drive client engagement.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of AMIF market trends, competitive landscape, and key regulatory and commercial developments.
  • Partner with the communications and PR team to identify media opportunities, position lawyers as subject matter experts, and secure profile-raising coverage.
  • Support rankings and awards strategy, including identifying priority submissions, categories, and key individuals to profile.

Pipeline Development & Key Accounts

  • Design and drive a robust pipeline development process for the AMIF practice.
  • Help shape and grow a key account program, including identifying priority clients and revenue expansion opportunities.
  • Develop cross-practice and cross-market initiatives that match firm capabilities to evolving client needs.
  • Build and maintain personal connections in the asset management and funds ecosystem to support lead generation and market insight.

Team Leadership & Practice Support

  • Own the documentation and ongoing management of the practice’s business development and marketing norms, playbooks, and protocols.
  • Maintain and evolve a central knowledge bank of relevant lawyer and matter experience.
  • Co-develop the annual marketing and business development budget for the practice and manage spend against plan.
  • Support the onboarding of new lawyers by explaining the client growth function, resources, and expectations around business development.
  • Contribute to the mentoring, training, and development of junior team members.
  • Act as an active member of the global client growth team, contributing to firmwide initiatives and special projects as needed.

About You

  • You are a strategic, commercially minded marketing and business development professional with deep experience in professional services, ideally within a large national or international firm.
  • You are highly comfortable working directly with partners and senior stakeholders, influencing and challenging thoughtfully to drive results.
  • You combine strong analytical skills with creativity, and you enjoy turning market insight into actionable go-to-market plans.
  • You thrive in a collaborative environment but are equally confident operating independently and “rolling up your sleeves” to execute.
  • You are organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive background in marketing, business and client development within a professional services environment; experience in a large national or global firm strongly preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of the asset management and investment funds sector, including key trends and competitive dynamics.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Develop and execute strategic business development and marketing plans.
    • Partner effectively with senior professionals and cross-functional teams.
    • Manage complex projects and competing priorities to deadline.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, persuasive, and client-centric materials.
  • Strong project management skills and rigorous attention to detail.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a proactive and solutions-focused approach.
