A leading global law firm is seeking a Business Development leader to oversee and advance their U.S. business development strategy. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for driving growth across multiple offices, practices, and industry sectors within a complex, matrixed professional services environment.

Reporting directly into global marketing and business development leadership, the Director will play a central role in shaping regional strategy, strengthening partner engagement, and building a highly collaborative, commercially focused BD function aligned with firmwide priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Regional Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute an integrated U.S. business development strategy aligned with global growth objectives.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior partners and regional leadership on market positioning, client opportunities, and investment priorities.
  • Translate firmwide strategy into clear regional priorities, plans, and measurable outcomes.

Collaboration & Market Growth

  • Foster collaboration across U.S. offices, practices, and industry groups to drive cross-selling and client expansion.
  • Partner closely with global BD and marketing leaders to ensure regional initiatives align with client programs and strategic pursuits.
  • Leverage data, market intelligence, and client insight to inform decision-making and prioritize resources.

Client Development & Engagement

  • Champion a client-centric approach to business development, ensuring strategies reflect evolving client needs and market dynamics.
  • Oversee relationship planning for priority clients, supporting revenue growth, retention, and long-term engagement.
  • Utilize feedback, pipeline analysis, and performance metrics to continuously refine client strategies.

Innovation, Operations & Performance

  • Drive adoption of CRM systems, digital tools, and analytics to enhance BD effectiveness and transparency.
  • Promote innovative approaches to client engagement through campaigns, thought leadership, events, and sponsorships.
  • Define and track KPIs across revenue growth, pipeline development, and return on investment.
  • Oversee regional BD budgets, ensuring disciplined investment and clear performance reporting.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of business development professionals across the U.S.
  • Build a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support professional development and succession planning within the regional BD team.

About You

  • Senior-level experience leading business development or commercial strategy within a law firm or comparable professional services environment.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a complex, multi-office organization with senior stakeholder exposure.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with a track record of translating strategy into measurable growth outcomes.
  • Confident, credible communicator with the presence to influence at partner and executive level.
  • Highly collaborative, data-driven, and comfortable leading change at scale.

Location & Working Model

This role can be based in any major U.S. office location, with regular travel and in-person collaboration required.
