The Role
The Director of Sales and Business Development is a newly created, senior leadership position within the Marketing and Business Development function. This individual will be the driving force behind the firm’s revenue growth, responsible for transforming a national community of sales professionals across various sectors and service lines. It is a high-impact, hands-on role that requires a unique blend of high-level strategy and practical execution. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert, building deep commercial relationships with senior partners to align sales capabilities with the firm’s overarching growth strategies.
Key Responsibilities
The Director will define and implement a comprehensive sales strategy that emphasises professional skill development, client-centricity, and speed to market. They are responsible for owning and modernising the firm’s sales methodology, ensuring it reflects the latest market trends and best practice behaviours. Beyond strategy, this leader will manage a substantial team of sales and business development professional utilising technology to drive data-driven decision-making and establish clear KPIs to measure performance across the entire sales cycle. Ultimately, they will lead from the front, coaching a high-performing team to identify and win work while fostering a collaborative, high-energy culture.
Key Requirements
- Senior Leadership Expertise: Proven experience in a Director-level sales or business development role, leading large teams within the professional services sector.
- Strategic Transformation: A track record of transforming sales/BD functions across Account Management, Lead Generation, and Bids & Proposals.
- Methodology Mastery: Experience in evaluating and delivering sophisticated sales methodologies and training programs.
- Tech-Savvy Mindset: Proficiency in using CRM platforms and sales enablement tools to inform commercial decisions.
- Influencing Skills: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional senior leadership and build lasting internal relationships.
