An elite global law firm is seeking an Associate Director, Communications to elevate the visibility of the firm, its practices, and its senior attorneys through strategic media relations and integrated communications initiatives.

Reporting to senior leadership within the Marketing & Communications function, this role serves as a key adviser on reputation-building efforts, firmwide announcements, and proactive media strategy. You will lead and mentor a team of communications professionals, drive high-impact PR programs, and collaborate closely with Business Development, Content, and Marketing colleagues to ensure cohesive, compelling storytelling across all channels.

Key Responsibilities

Media Relations & Communications Strategy

  • Lead media relations strategy across all practice groups, working directly with partners and BD stakeholders to set priorities and define goals.
  • Oversee execution of PR initiatives, including development and review of media pitches, content calendars, byline concepts, and related materials.
  • Build and cultivate relationships with top-tier business, legal, and financial media outlets to secure high-impact coverage.
  • Partner with Marketing and Content teams to ensure alignment and consistency in messaging for visibility campaigns and major announcements.

Firmwide Communications & Issues Management

  • Support the Director of Communications and CMO on high-profile, firm-level initiatives, including lateral partner announcements and crisis communications.
  • Contribute strategic insights and proactive ideas to strengthen the firm’s brand presence and competitive positioning.
  • Bring fresh, innovative thinking to the Communications team, encouraging a proactive, results-driven PR approach.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Manage, mentor, and develop junior and mid-level communications team members, ensuring high-quality execution and professional growth.
  • Partner with colleagues across Marketing, BD, and Events to ensure an integrated communications program that supports firmwide business objectives.
  • Present to and collaborate with senior attorneys and executives, guiding them on communications strategy and best practices.

About You

You are an experienced communications leader with strong media relations skills and a track record of driving visibility for complex professional services organizations. You thrive in a fast-paced environment, balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, and are adept at partnering with senior stakeholders and coaching a growing team.

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, English, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in public relations, journalism, or strategic communications.
  • Proven experience leading teams and managing direct reports.
  • Background in financial or professional services communications (in-house or agency) preferred.
  • Established relationships with top-tier business and industry media, with demonstrated success in generating meaningful coverage.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience using metrics to define and measure communications impact.
  • Comfortable presenting to senior executives and attorneys.
