The Tomorrow Foundation forms weekly volunteering partnership with City Gateway

Community

The Tomorrow Foundation by tml Partners, continues to build on its successful partnership with City Gateway, and has committed to a weekly volunteering programme to assist this incredible educational body and their inspirational group of learners.

City Gateway works with young people and vulnerable women who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) to help them to reach their full potential. They provide skills development courses, work-based training, placements and apprenticeships.

The charity is based in Tower Hamlets, just next to Canary Wharf, one of the most affluent areas of London, and yet within Tower Hamlets there is a 56.7% child poverty rate. They currently work with over 300 women and young people. Their track record shows that, with their help, the people they work with double their chances of getting sustainable employment.

Through The Tomorrow Foundation, tml Partners have pledged to a Community Charter in which our employees dedicate 5% of their working week to charity and pro-bono projects.

tml’s partnership with City Gateway also supports the charity’s headline mission alongside The Evening Standard, The Independent and Barclays LifeSkills as part of their Skill up, Step up campaign. Skill up, Step up aims to upskill unemployed young Londoners so they can be work ready and step up into sustainable jobs or apprenticeships.

Our weekly partnership with City Gateway will involve the following initiatives:

  1. Mock interviews and CV workshops: the tml team provides City Gateway trainees with weekly interview training and practice. Mock interviews allow the trainees to gain a realistic experience of an  interview and meaningful feedback to help them improve their interview technique. The purpose of the mock interview session is to help trainees know how to communicate effectively, practice answering standard interview questions, and to raise their confidence about new opportunities.
  2. LinkedIn masterclasses: the tml team will deliver monthly workshops showcasing the importance of developing a professional personal brand via LinkedIn, and top tips for the City Gateway trainees to  optimise their profiles for professional networking and future employment applications.
  3. Introductions to Careers in Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Recruitment & HR: Together with members of our Chief Marketing and HR community network, the tml team will deliver monthly Q&A panel sessions for the trainees to learn about different careers and routes into a variety of industries. The tml team works with small groups of volunteers to speak specifically about our industry, careers in marketing and recruitment, our own journeys into work and what we have overcome to get to where we are.

Mark Pike, Head of Education and Inclusion at City Gateway comments “This makes such an immeasurable difference to our young people. That one flash of inspiration can set them off for a rewarding future. Huge thanks to the tml team for your time and genuine enthusiasm.”

Charlie Green, Managing Director at tml Partners, adds; “We set up The Tomorrow Foundation to have a major focus on improving social mobility, creating fairer futures for everyone, and having a meaningful impact on the community. It’s fantastic to build a long term and sustainable partnership with City Gateway, which is at the very heart of our Community Charter.”
